The book came in 504 pages, where its texts look at Taha Hussein from various aspects, as the author is not satisfied with evoking his intellectual and literary project and placing it under the scrutiny of examination, study and analysis, but rather approaches the dean of Arabic literature as a human being and a social actor, who played many roles in life, and achieved success. He combined his text and his personality to produce a phenomenon that has risen to its status, and its news has reached the East and the West, and interest in it is still current and valid.
Ammar Ali Hassan relied on reading the various works of Taha Hussein, and most of what was written about him, to see it in its comprehensiveness and completeness from six angles: the approach, the text, the self and the image, the situation, and the horizon. It neglects the role of the heritage or the popular tradition in building a cultural project, and does not compare the modern and contemporary cultural product with the West, similar to what happened with the heritage of the ancient Arabs.
The author of the book stated that he had followed the course of the sociology of knowledge and the paths of literary criticism and historiography for the dean of Arabic literature, and the books include six chapters, and each chapter will contain the points mentioned, and others will be added to them that naturally appear, as the writer goes deeper into the research, which is the basis To re-read the entire product or achievement of Taha Hussein, and much of what was written about him, and to search within it for what proves his interaction in advance.
The first angle that the writer focused on was about the “method”, and included under it titles, including: Islamic jurisprudence, Greek literature and philosophy, French theater, and the second angle on the text, and it included: oral text, pristine text, rhythmic text, text full of intertextuality, A functional text. As for the third corner, it was titled “The Self”, and it included the free writer, Naseej Alone, the self-aggressive, unyielding, violent polemicist, admitting his mistakes.
And the fourth corner, related to the “image”, in which the conqueror of darkness, the successful student, the innovator, the trickster, the global citizen, and the fifth corner, entitled “The Attitude”, including educational reform, the political path, the East’s relationship with the West, advocates of women’s rights, and the last corner, “The Horizon And through these six angles, Ammar Ali Hassan has proposed a theoretical framework and dug a coherent methodological path, which can be benefited from in any study of a prominent thinker or writer.
Ammar Ali Hassan concluded his book or study with an unconventional conclusion based on presenting suggestions and recommendations that he formulated in the form of a dialogue, in which he placed Taha Hussein’s project in a creative interaction with other visions, which he did not pay sufficient attention to, or did not deal with them as much as they should occupy. Any Arab renaissance project must take into account the nature of the society in which it is launched, in terms of its roots, culture, life conditions and major issues, in order to become more effective.
For his part, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Head of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, explained that the book comes within the research grants program launched by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, as an important incentive for researchers in the field of Arabic, and reflects a strong keenness to advance scientific research in Arabic and its fields of knowledge.
He added: We were keen that the grant program combine originality and modernity, so we allocated part of the grants to projects to realize the relics of Arab heritage, out of our belief in the value of this heritage and its entitlement to be part of contemporary knowledge. And we made the other part open to linguistic and literary studies, inter- and comparative studies, and we called the group of books and studies issued within the grants program the name “Insights for Research and Studies Series,” hoping that this series, with its richness and diversity, will enrich the Arab library, and be an important incentive for researchers and academics. Arabs for research and authorship.
