Next week we will celebrate Shavuot, the last holiday in the calendar. In preparation for the cheese festival, and the preparation of the holiday meal, the Consumer Council checked the refrigerators – a basket that includes 130 cheese products and holiday products (in many categories). The test was conducted on the basis of data obtained from Pricez. Statistical support – Dr. Or Katz, Ashkelon Academic College. Prices are average data including specials, without credit specials.
Despite the holiday sales (the prices are cheaper than at the beginning of the year, but more expensive than last year) not everything is on sale. Cheeses like Ski which went up by 30, and Shufersal products which also went up by more than 30%. As with any test, there are unimaginable gaps between the chains on the exact same products.
Price changes compared to last year: in the unusual increases it can be seen that grated cheese jumped by 17% in price, yellow by 10% in weight. 13% increase in white cheese, 9% increase in Camembert, Cheddar, Mozzarella, 33% increase in Gouda cheese, Strauss Ski – 30% increase, Shufersel’s brand cheeses – 33% increase, net cheeses – increase of 10%, Tara – an increase of 9%, Gard – 8%, Tnuva (except Napoleon cheeses) an increase of 9%.
The craziest difference was recorded in the prices of fresh tomatoes. If the price is NIS 9.86 in Tiv Taam, then compared to only NIS 1.9 in Karpur Hip, i.e. a gap of NIS 7.9, which is a 419% difference. 200 grams of refined 5% sefatit cheese from Gad Dairies will cost 15.9 shekels at King Store and only 5.9 shekels on sale at Victory, a difference of 10 shekels, which is a 166% difference. Grated mozzarella Italian-style grated semi-hard cheese 22% from Gad Dairies 300 grams, NIS 28.9 in Kingstore and only NIS 11.9 in Carport Hyper, about NIS 17 difference, which is a 142% difference
The Israel Consumer Council: “These are outrageous findings. There are price increases across the entire scale, with some of the products tested showing an increase that was much higher than the increase in the index. These are particularly extreme price increases. Increases in the prices of individual products for which demand is rigid and has no economic explanation. Follow until the holiday the promotions of The networks and choose the network that gives you the most profitable basket – without purchase conditions or quantity promotions that are relevant to you.”
