A love story in the nursing home in Damascus.. A Syrian marriage and a Bulgarian woman in her eighties

Five years ago, the Syrian Michel Maasab, 72, was living a simple and quiet life, like any old widower, in the Saint Gregory’s Association home for the care of the elderly in Damascus.

But everything changed when Nelly Atanasova moved into the house and lived in the room next to his.

The new resident, according to the story published by Syrian media, was an 80-year-old Bulgarian old woman who came to the nursing home after the death of her Syrian husband. Despite the difference in language, culture and temperament, the relationship between Michelle and Nelly developed rapidly, and their ordinary friendship turned into a state Love.

Their room turned into a romantic setting, where they talked and ate meals together. On one occasion when Nelly fell ill and was confined to bed, Michel prepared tea for her and took care of her, which made her feel the appreciation and attention that Michel had for her. Michel would also take her on walks around Old Damascus, and Nelly describes these times as the most beautiful in her life. After a short period of relationship, they decided to agree to marry, which happened quickly, as the people of the house and its management gathered to celebrate the two elderly lovers in a simple wedding ceremony.
