With the World Health Organization recently declaring the end of the Corona pandemic as a public health emergency, Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, thanked the community members for their support and contribution to the success of the State of Qatar’s strategy to combat the Corona Virus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Dr. Al-Maslamani said – in a video via the Ministry of Health’s account on Twitter – that due to the concerted efforts of government institutions and society, Qatar succeeded in combating the virus and preventing its spread.

He added that community support was a key factor in the success of dealing with the Coronavirus, as since the beginning of the pandemic, the community has shown close cooperation with health services in confronting the virus by following the instructions that were published at the time, including continuous hand washing, distancing from gatherings, and adherence to quarantine for the infected.

And the medical director of Hamad General Hospital added that the community’s commitment to vaccination contributed to the rapid eradication of the virus and the return to normal life in Qatar.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Mohammed, Head of the Internal Medicine Department and Acting Head of the Intensive Care Department at HMC, explained how the increase in hospital bed capacity contributed to the success of the health sector’s strategy to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Al-Mohammed said: We worked hard as a health care system to ensure that every part of the health care system is provided with the best level of services for all, and we increased the clinical capacity to receive acute cases and the clinical capacity of intensive care units to access care.

He added: The ability of the State of Qatar to provide effective treatment for patients with the most severe symptoms in intensive care units was a major factor that contributed to making the death rate due to Corona one of the lowest in the world.

And he said that the care teams at Hamad Medical Corporation worked quickly to more than triple the capacity of the current intensive care units to reach 700 beds in the institution’s hospitals, and Hamad Hospital increased the capacity of the intensive care unit in the hospital from 8 beds initially to 226 for intensive care.

He explained that the expansion of bed capacity in hospitals is evidence of the hard work, skills and experience of the healthcare workforce in Qatar.

The Head of the Internal Medicine Department and Acting Head of the Intensive Care Department at Hamad Medical Corporation said: We thank all the health care staff for their wonderful efforts over the past three years.

Dr. Samia Al-Abdullah, Senior Consultant Family Medicine and Executive Director of Operations Department at the Primary Health Care Corporation, highlighted the important role of the Primary Health Care Corporation teams in implementing Qatar’s strategy to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
