Sharjah 24:

With creative fingers and creative ideas, the children of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival undertook an exciting experience to create new cartoon characters using the “overlapping” technique by merging two famous cartoon characters into one drawing to produce a “merged character”.

The children listened to an explanation of the “merging of characters” technique. The presenter of the workshop asked the children to draw the famous “Pikachu” character, and above it the “Batman” character, to design a third innovative character that mixes the two, which the children interacted with and started to implement using “pencils”.

Maha Al-Muhairi, the workshop presenter, says: “Painters rely on creativity and innovation, and it is not a requirement that they repeat the same drawings every time. Therefore, the technique of character fusion relies on drawing characters inspired by different cartoons, to come up with a new character, so that children can show their creativity in drawing.”

Regarding the purpose of the workshop, she explained: “We are trying to cultivate a love of artificial creations in children by teaching them to make comics, characters, shields and swords, so that they realize that they can use their imagination to produce new things and be creative in their implementation.”
