“All the hype about the French investigations is baseless”… Salameh: The legal path is unfair!

The Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, confirmed that “I will not remain in my position after the end of my term,” noting that “the deputy governor of the Central Bank will take over the position after the end of my term.”

In an interview with Al-Hadath channel, Salameh revealed that the IMF investigations show that there was no fraud in the Central Bank’s budgets

He pointed out that “the notification by the French judge was not according to the rules of the agreement between Lebanon and France, and we asked her to inform us according to the rules, and she refused.”

“All the hype about the French investigations is baseless,” he added.

He continued, “The legal path is unfair, but I am ready for it.”

And he stressed that “I am cooperating with the judiciary, and I will attend any investigative session that is duly held,” noting that “if any verdict is issued against me, I will step down.”

Salameh pointed out that “the good loan of Hezbollah is not licensed by the Banque du Liban.”

He added, “The Central Bank is ready to buy all the local currency in the market.”

And he continued, “The Central Bank will intervene and will not allow the exchange rate to escape further.”
