Social media users are circulating an image whose publishers claim it shows a collision between two Rapid Support Forces vehicles as they fled the weeks-long clashes in Sudan, according to the AFP fact-checking service.

The picture shows two colliding military vehicles surrounded by soldiers in what appears to be a desert area.

The accompanying commentary stated that this collision occurred after members of the Rapid Support Forces escaped from the Sudanese army forces.

The photo received hundreds of posts from several Sudanese pages, as the fighting continued between the Rapid Support Forces, led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hamidati, and the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

On Thursday night, the two parties to the conflict in the Saudi city of Jeddah signed a declaration pledging to respect rules allowing for the provision of humanitarian aid, without yet reaching a ceasefire agreement, in negotiations that US diplomats described as difficult.

However, the circulated image has nothing to do with the military confrontations in Sudan, according to AFP.

Published about a week before the outbreak of clashes on April 15 Image source: AFP

The research indicated that it was published on social media pages and Sudanese news sites on April 9, 2023, that is, about a week before the outbreak of clashes on April 15, which denies what was stated in the circulated publications.

And the comments accompanying it at the time stated that it showed “the collision of two four-wheel drive vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces, which were on their way to the capital, Khartoum.”
