An unusual event took place tonight in Turkey: two Israelis who were supposed to return to Israel from Istanbul this morning did not show up for the flight and every attempt to contact them was unsuccessful.
A brother of one of the missing wrote on Facebook: “My brother and his friend had to board a flight back to Israel this morning, they left the hotel in Istanbul yesterday at around 1 am and have not returned since then, the security cameras at the hotel were checked and there is no sign that they returned to the hotel, the suitcase is still in the room, they did not arrive for the flight. The phones have been unavailable since last night, including WhatsApp. We are afraid that they have been hijacked!!! The Foreign Ministry and the consulate do not know how to give answers.”
After hours they were located and are now in a local police station. They are believed to have been involved in a fight and were taken to hospital overnight. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “the issue is recognized and handled. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul are working with the local authorities in Turkey.”
A short time ago, the consul in Istanbul, Hani Nahmias, met the two disconnected Israeli citizens, and they talked with their families in Israel.
