
International admiration for the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve the Saudi Green Initiative
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification held a side event on the sidelines of the United Nations Forum on Forests in New York City, USA, during its eighteenth session, during which the center focused on improving vegetation cover for environmental purposes through the Saudi Green Initiative. During the activities of the session, the center dealt with initiatives, ambitious plans and achievements related to the development, protection and sustainability of forests within the framework of the Saudi Green Initiative, the most important of which is the center’s adoption of the initiative to plant 60 million trees and rehabilitate 300 thousand hectares of forest lands and valleys, in addition to implementing the national strategy for forests and programs and projects implemented in the field of forests. It was also discussed that Saudi Arabia will host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification at the end of 2024.
The event received great interaction and turnout. A number of delegations from member states of the United Nations participated, including ambassadors and representatives of countries and organizations, who expressed their great admiration for the side event, describing its outputs as ambitious work and the important environmental achievements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
It is noteworthy that the Forest Forum is held annually at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and aims to protect, develop and sustain forests around the world. To help promote social development, improve livelihoods and contribute to poverty eradication, at a time when forests are threatened by unsustainable practices and economic crises.
