
The Ministry of Transport is implementing a network of express trains with lengths of 2,250 km, linking all Egyptian governorates and more than 80 Egyptian cities, to serve as a train for development along the path of the three lines being implemented from Ain Sukhna to Aswan, Matrouh and Hurghada, in addition to the fourth line to be implemented through the private sector “West Port Said – New Abu Qir.
The Egyptian Ministry of Transport implements the central workshops for the electric express train, including the central workshops for the first line of the express electric train, which is located on an area of approximately 578 acres, and includes 39 buildings and accommodates the maintenance of all trains of the first line and about 30% of the trains of the second line.
The central workshops of the first line of the express train are designed to be dedicated to all types of maintenance required for moving units, whether it is light maintenance or heavy maintenance, and also contain periodic inspection work for moving units during operation.
The workshop is designed to include the latest equipment and devices necessary for the work of this maintenance. The workshop also includes buildings for storing units and sorting and preparing them before operation. It also contains test rails for these units before entering service, in the distance from the Badrashin area west of the Nile to the intersection of the train track with Wadi El-Natrun Road / El Alamein.
The workshops are implemented by Egyptian companies and the private sector under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, the National Authority for Tunnels and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, in coordination with the foreign company “Siemens” implementing the high-speed train “Ain Sukhna – New Alamein – Marsa Matrouh”.
The network of express electric trains, which is being established, consists of 4 lines covering all parts of the Republic, with a total length of 2250 km. The length of the first line, Ain Sokhna / El Alamein / Matrouh, is 675 km.

The second line of the express train connects a large number of governorates, and it is the longest line among the three lines that are being implemented. The third line of the express train
The third line of the express electric train connects the city of Qena with the cities of Hurghada and Safaga, and intersects with the second line at Qena station, with a length of 225 km and the number of its stations 5 stations, and it has 3 stations for the express train and two stations for regional trains, and its stations are “Qena, East Sohag, Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh, and Safaga. Six express trains with a design speed of 230 km/h will operate on the line, 16 regional trains with a speed of 160 km/h, and 6 freight locomotives with a speed of 120 km/h.
The fourth line of the high-speed train (West Port Said – New Abu Qir).
The project is 250 km long and passes through 6 governorates and serves 5 ports on the Mediterranean Sea. It also serves four new urban cities. The project extends along the northeastern coast from the west of the city of Port Said, connecting with Port Said port at the entrance to the Suez Canal and the existing railway line between Port Said and Ismailia, and then extends Along the international coastal road until the city of furniture, then the city of Damietta and its port, then the new city of Damietta and the dry port, then Gamasa, and passes through the new city of Mansoura, the jewel of the crown of the Delta, then the Marina Delta and Burullus and its giant power station, and reaches the new Rashid after passing through Motobas, then crossing the ferry and finally to the city of Abu Qir and its new port, which The service will be interchanged with the Abu Qir Metro (Alexandria Metro in its first phase), which will reach the Misr station.
For his part, Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, affirmed that the high-speed electric train network project will contribute to creating thousands of job opportunities for young people, reducing traffic congestion, achieving higher levels of safety for passengers, a better impact on the environment and aiding economic development, adding that the high-speed electric train system that will cover all parts of the country. The Minister of Transport added that the fast electric train network will contribute to the establishment of new logistical areas, serving all industrial or agricultural areas passing through, as well as contributing to the transportation of products.
