Great anger in the central faction of Agudat Israel following the public independent support expressed by the representative of Gur Hasidism in the Ashdod municipality for the candidacy of the current mayor Yehiel Lesri for another term. A letter has been received by ‘Bachderi Haredim’ renouncing the support and at the same time the faction is considering his removal All details are revealed
The first city where the municipal elections are already well felt is the city of Ashdod, where, as in other cities, the ultra-Orthodox voters are a key factor that will decide the identity of the next mayor, with the current contenders for the position being the veteran mayor Yehiel Lesri and the veteran strategic advisor Barak Seri, who is widely supported.
In the ultra-Orthodox rooms, it was learned that on the eve of Passover, the representative of the central faction, Deputy Mayor Yehiel Weingarten, sent an internal email in the city, in which he expressed support for Mayor Yehiel Lasri for another term, “The Agudath Israel faction, in consultation with the members of the Ashdod Rabbinical Committee and under their guidance, decided to support the candidacy of Dr. Yehiel Lesri for the upcoming term,” it said.
The letter was circulated throughout the city, with Lasri presenting it as a significant achievement and early ultra-Orthodox support, a move that infuriated the national leadership of the central faction, who unusually rushed to publicly reprimand their representative Yehiel Weingarten, and published an internal letter published here in ‘Bechaderi Haredim’ for the first time, in which they clarified that Weingarten is not authorized to express support.
In the letter published here for the first time, signed by Chairman Yitzhak Goldenkopf, Secretary General Hanoch Seibert and Israel Schneider who established a municipal committee, they issue a warning to their representative “We ask not to take any steps before concluding things with the undersigned (members of the municipal committee A.K.) “.
Bachderi Haredim has also learned that along with the outrage over Weingarten’s private support, the Gur Hasidim are considering ousting the representative who served a single term in the municipality, and bringing in a new representative in the elections who will faithfully represent the Gur Hasidim in the city of Ashdod and head the local Agudat Israel faction.
