Happy ending – all is well: Six years after she was kidnapped, Kayla Unbehon (Unbehaun) was found safe and sound. The 15-year-old girl from Illinois, USA, was found in a surprising way, and her identity was confirmed by the local authorities.
On July 5, 2017, Kayla’s father went to pick her up from a certain address, where she was staying with her mother, even though she did not have custody of the young girl. When he arrived at the scene it became clear to him that the mother and the child were gone, as were all her bags and personal belongings. Since then she has been declared missing and the police have periodically released a computerized image of her that simulates her development and shows how she should look as the years progress.
“I’m happy that Kayla is home. I want to thank the residents of the city of Elgin, the Illinois Police Department and the National Emergency and Rescue Forces, as well as the ‘Lost and Exploited Children’ program, and everyone who assisted in her return,” said the father, Ryan. “We ask everyone to give us the privacy we need to get to know each other anew and navigate this new beginning.”
Surprisingly and dramatically, Kayla was found through a TV program of the streaming giant “Netflix”. A husband from North Carolina recognized Kayla after watching an episode about her on the show “Unsolved Mysteries” (Unsolved Mysteries) – and informed the police about it.
Meanwhile, Kayla’s mother, Heather, was arrested over the weekend by the police. She is facing charges of kidnapping a minor and bail was set at a quarter of a million dollars for her release from custody.
