
An informed source within the Confederation of African Football, CAF, revealed the secret behind the exclusion of the Gabon national team from participating in the African U-23 Cup of Nations, Morocco 2023, which qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The same source told Sada El Balad :: Due to an administrative error in recording the date of birth of the Gabonese player Floris Djavi, the Gabon national team was excluded from the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2023, by a decision of the CAF Disciplinary Committee.
He continued: CAF also decided to suspend the participation of the Gabon national team in the next edition of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2023, which qualifies for the Paris Olympics 2024, by a decision of the CAF Disciplinary Committee, and Cameroon will replace it, which is awaiting confirmation by the Organizing Committee.
He indicated that CAF’s decision to exclude the Gabon national team from the U-23 African Cup of Nations, Morocco 2023, which qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics, is subject to appeal.

The African Confederation confirmed the exclusion of Gabon, due to an over-age player, in their qualifying match for the tournament against Cameroon.
Cameroon will participate in the tournament instead of Gabon, which is excluded from participation.
Thus, the Cameroon national team joins the second group in which the Egyptian Olympic team, led by Brazilian Rogero Mikali, is present, along with the Mali and Niger teams.
The first 3 teams in the tournament qualify for the Olympic Games, while the fourth-place finisher will play a qualifying play-off for the competitions.
