The Grand Imam, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, sent a message to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, after assuming the presidency of the UAE, and said in his message, which he published through his official account on the “Twitter” website, “At a time when I feel for my dear brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and his great injury.” With the loss of his brother and his support, Sheikh Khalifa, may God have mercy on him, I am stronger on his hands and I pray to God to strengthen his back, strengthen him, and grant him success as president and leader of the UAE to complete his wise father’s journey in the service of his country, religion and nation, and to spread justice and goodness everywhere.
Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb’s message
This comes as the Federal Supreme Council unanimously elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the United Arab Emirates today, Saturday.
The Council held a meeting today at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and a number of UAE sheikhs buried the body of the President of the State, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died this morning at the age of 73.
The body of the late president was buried in the Al Bateen Cemetery in Abu Dhabi, according to local media.
The UAE government declared a general mourning for a period of forty days, in addition to suspending work in ministries, departments, federal and local institutions, and the private sector for a period of 3 days, starting today.
Sheikh Khalifa held the position of President of the Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi in 2004 after the death of his father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established the state in 1971.
