Foreign Minister Yair Lapid responded tonight (Thursday) to criticism leveled against him after he allegedly called the entire right-wing camp “forces of darkness” during his speech in a statement on the dissolution of the Knesset. In his remarks, he again attacked MK Itamar Ben Gvir and the leader of the opposition, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I understand that there were people, including the head of the opposition, who needed a translation of my remarks about the ‘forces of darkness,'” Lapid wrote on Twitter. “So happy: I meant anyone who tries to prevent the people of Israel from uniting and connecting – the one convicted of supporting terrorism Itamar Ben Gvir and his gang and all those who operate the Pike-News poison machine funded by foreign oligarchs.”

Following Lapid’s remarks, Ben Gvir attacked in response: Yair, even if you write ‘Ben Gvir’ a hundred times a day, you will not be able to erase the disgrace of the assassination sale you made to the State of Israel for the fingers of supporters of terrorism. “Tibi, Arafat’s adviser, Kasif Mecca the policemen, and Taha, who supports the murder of IDF soldiers, are your natural partners. And you are talking about ‘forces of darkness’…. Funny.”

As mentioned, Lapid’s remarks that provoked the storm were made last Monday during his joint statement with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on the dissolution of the Knesset. “Even if we go to the polls in a few months, our challenges as a country cannot wait,” he said. “We need to address the cost of living, conduct the fight against Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah, confront the forces that threaten to make Israel an undemocratic state.”

“What has happened in recent days, what is happening here tonight, is further proof that the Israeli system needs a profound change and a great correction. A year ago we started this correction, we continue it now, and continue together. What we need to do today. Return to the idea of “Israeli unity. Not to let the forces of darkness dismantle us from within. To remind ourselves that we love each other, love our country, and only together will we win.”
