Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between HMD International, owner of the global brand Nokia, and Etisalat for Advanced Industries (EAI) in Egypt, with the aim of manufacturing one million mobile devices of different models between traditional feature phones and smart phones. This year, production will double in the coming period.
A statement from the Ministry of Communications said today, Saturday, that the agreement was signed by Tamer El-Gamal, general manager of HMD in Egypt, and Ahmed Abu Auf, managing director of Etisal Advanced Industries, EAI; In the presence of Alain Lejeune, Head of Operations at HMD Global, owner of the Nokia brand, Wen Chang, Executive Vice President, Products, Amr Mahfouz, Executive Director of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, Dr. Hossam Othman, Vice President of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, and a number of leaders of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. and two companies, Etisal for Advanced Industries, EAI and HMD.
The Minister of Communications said in the statement that this agreement comes as a dedication to the efforts of the state in creating a supportive climate for the growth of investments by international companies in Egypt. Developing this important industry and creating specialized job opportunities for young people in the field of information technology and electronics.
Ahmed Abu Auf, managing director of Etisal for Advanced Industries, said that the agreement works to produce the Nokia mobile phones required by HMD Global OY with international quality, including electronic components, assembly, packaging and testing, which is completely similar to international products in quality and efficiency, which achieves Egypt’s strategy in Its quest to localize the technology industry and make Egypt a regional center for advanced industries.
Tamer El-Gamal, General Manager of HMD Global OY, added that under the agreement, HMD will provide EAI-Etisal Factory with production requirements of raw materials, inspection and testing tools and calibration equipment necessary for the production process. We will also provide the factory in Egypt with transfers of technological expertise and technical support by training Egyptian cadres. Technically and technically at the hands of Nokia experts from Finland, in addition to providing all means of support to take advantage of the company’s research and development centers to provide the best specifications and products that meet consumer needs.
It is noteworthy that EAI, through its factory located in 6th of October, is developing and manufacturing advanced electronics in Egypt, with a production capacity of more than 2 million units this year, and reaching 10 million units annually in the coming years.
