A worrying development in the case of the struggle between the ultras organizations in Haifa. After two suspects were arrested at the beginning of the week in a break-in to the equipment warehouse of the “Green Monkeys” organization, Maccabi Haifa fans, this evening (Tuesday) the “Gate 5” organization of Hapoel Haifa fans published a video in which members of the organization allegedly burned the stolen deployment flags.

The fire quickly flared up and voices on social media called for violent retaliation. In the evening, a photo of the late Robbie Shapira, the former owner of Hapoel Haifa, was circulating on social media, with the sentence above it: “Robby is going to entertain guests in Marumim – soon!”.

Hapoel Haifa responded: “We are shocked by the events of the last few days and hours and call for calm in both fan camps and remind that this is just sport! We trust the police to bring justice to the fans who cause escalation and incitement.”

As you may recall, on Sunday, unknown persons broke into the Greens’ Ultra warehouse in Sami Ofer, stole equipment and left flags with skulls, the police said. Following this, the investigators of the Carmel Castle Police Station began diverse investigative operations, which include the use of advanced technological means, and yesterday arrested two suspects aged 23 and 24, a resident of Haifa and a deaf resident, for committing the act.

Maccabi Haifa responded: “We call for calming the spirits, there is no place for violence, this is about sport. We as a club, together with our wonderful audience, are in an exciting time and we will do everything to continue it together. At the same time, we call on the Israel Police to bring the burglars and those actually responsible to justice.”

A police Source said: “The Israel Police invests a lot of resources to deal with the phenomenon of violence in sports, at sports events and among the fans of the teams. Just this week we arrested a series of suspects who tried to disrupt the sports events and behave in a criminal manner. We are using intelligence and will do everything to prevent any violence.”
