Muscat, September 21 / WAM / H.E. Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, stressed the importance of building a joint Gulf parliamentary vision that enhances the process of joint Gulf action, and looks forward to future prospects that contribute to the progress of our societies and countries.
This came in a speech delivered by His Excellency Hamad Ahmed Al Rahoumi, First Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council, during his participation in the sixteenth regular meeting of Their Excellencies, Heads of Shura, Representatives, National and Nation Councils in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, hosted by the sisterly Omani capital “Muscat”. It was chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Omani Shura Council.
His Excellency said: Our meeting is taking place in light of major international events, in which international and regional relations are complicated, and in which political affairs are mixed with economic affairs, in addition to the natural revolutions whose effects and results are beginning to rage; As a result of the actions that people have done that have led to such climate changes, what we need today is to build a joint Gulf parliamentary vision that enhances the process of joint Gulf action, and looks forward to future prospects that contribute to the progress of our societies and countries, despite the great achievements that have been achieved in the system of joint Gulf action. ; However, our ambitions are growing for more parliamentary coordination and cooperation, as it is an essential Source of cooperation and joint Gulf development strategies.
He added: You may agree with me that building joint Gulf legislative frameworks, especially in the economic and social affairs, has become an urgent matter, and a necessary requirement for reviewing the economic, social and international repercussions, especially since the tracks of international relations between the active forces in the international community warn of more potential dangers to international peace and stability. And the economic and social crises that this has left, the effects of which may extend to all countries of the world, including our Gulf countries and peoples.
His Excellency stressed the importance of the meetings completing the previous stages of construction that took place in the process of the Gulf parliamentary work, as it is necessary to sense the extent of the responsibility entrusted to parliaments that represent our societies and countries. In order to achieve a qualitative leap, and to translate the work goals into parliamentary plans, programs and activities that keep pace with the requirements and needs of our countries and peoples, this will only come about through joint Gulf parliamentary work programs and projects that are studied and applicable on the ground.
He said: We in the UAE, through the Federal National Council, will not hesitate to provide all support, aid, and assistance to any joint Gulf effort in order to achieve sustainable development, the hoped-for stability and the desired progress for the future of our Gulf peoples, and to emphasize our firm position on the importance of joint Gulf and Arab solidarity, and support Any endeavors to increase the cohesion of cooperation, and we hope that the upcoming Arab summit in Algeria will represent a real opportunity to enhance Arab action and for understanding and cooperation to prevail among the countries of our Arab world. Relevant to cooperation and understanding in the relations of countries with each other.
His Excellency concluded the speech by saying: I ask God to help us, and to produce positive results that we will work on translating into a real reality that will benefit our governments and peoples; This will open wide horizons to enrich the Gulf cooperation process, and contribute to the development of this process and push it forward.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Speaker of the Omani Shura Council, welcomed their Excellencies, heads of legislative councils to complete the process of joint Gulf cooperation, and offered congratulations to the leadership and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the 92nd National Day, wishing the Kingdom and its people further progress and prosperity. During the meeting, the heads of the Gulf legislative councils reviewed the annual report of the chairman of the fifteenth periodic meeting of their Excellencies, the heads of the legislative councils and their affiliated committees. And the patronage of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
The agenda items were also adopted on the Gulf-European Parliamentary Committee, Gulf common issues, cooperation with the parliaments of Latin American countries, and an item for submitting the final recommendations of the joint Gulf seminars to the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
In the item of strengthening relations with parliaments and regional and international parliamentary unions, the presidents directed to assign the State Council of the Presidency in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council to ensure the continuity of mutual visits with the European Parliament, and to coordinate a meeting between the councils of member states and the European Parliament via video call or on the sidelines of the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union IPU.
The presidents approved a proposal from the Federal National Council regarding submitting the final recommendations to the joint Gulf seminars to the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. The councils’ framework, where the Omani Shura Council will implement the activities and events related to the subject in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
Their Excellencies were also briefed on the results of the symposium on joint policies of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf to implement the Green Middle East initiative in the face of the repercussions of climate change, and directed to submit the results to the next session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
