Javier Aguirre, former coach of Real Mallorca and Egypt, was exposed to an embarrassing situation on television, while analyzing Mexico’s match against Poland yesterday in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which ended in a goalless draw.

The coach took a short vacation because of the World Cup, which he decided to spend in his country and comment on Mexico’s matches on one of the television channels.

Aguirre’s controversial statements spread on social media, and the coach was speaking spontaneously and did not think that the program was broadcast live.

Aguirre said that Mexico coach Tata Martino would change the goalkeeper, referring to Guillermo Ochoa, but the goalkeeper quickly saved a penalty kick that awarded Mexico the first point in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

And this happened on the program “TUDN La Jugada del Mundial” when the presenter, Ricardo Pelaez, asked Javier Aguirre what he thought about the switch that coach Martino should make, and he chose the goalkeeper’s exit.

Aguirre explained what he said on the show, saying, “I like Mimo a lot and respect him. They were bothering me behind the scenes because when I was there the goalkeeper didn’t play with me.”

He continued, “By the way, I want to clarify that I was the victim of a joke. It’s good that you give me a chance to send a hug to all the fans. It’s a joke. They were bothering me behind the scenes.”

It is worth noting that the match ended in a goalless draw, as Mexico achieved its first point in the World Cup.
