Director Kawthar Younes said that the movie “My Girlfriend”, which was screened at the 44th Cairo Film Festival, was for me an idea and a phrase about what if, and I began to build the story based on its events, unlike my previous films.
And she added, during her meeting with Al-Youm Al-Sabea TV, that the controversy that took place around the movie is unknown to me, and the movie must be watched in order to judge it, noting that she is happy that the movie was shown in Egypt for the first time.
The film “My Girlfriend”, which participated in the short film competition, won the Special Jury Prize.
“My Girlfriend” is a 17-minute romantic drama film. Kawthar co-wrote his script with Ahmed Essam El-Sayed. It stars Elham Safi El-Din, Mark Hajjar, Fadhel El-Garhy and Sonia Farid. Produced by Sandro Kanaan, co-producer Mohamed El-Omda, financed by Kawthar Younis and director of photography Saif. Al-Din Khaled, and the editing was done by the well-known director Khaled Marei.
“My friend” had four performances within the official competition of the Short Film Horizons section of the Venice International Film Festival, which is considered the first Egyptian film to participate in the competition.
“My friend” is Kawthar Younes’s first film after graduating from the Higher Institute of Cinema. During her studies, she presented two films as projects, from which the documentary film “A Gift from the Past” graduated and achieved remarkable public success, as it continued to be shown in cinemas for more than 6 weeks, which has not happened in the history of cinema. documentaries in Egypt before.
