The Syndicate of Hospitals in Lebanon stated, in a statement, that “the Ministry of Public Health has recently signed with hospitals an appendix to the contract signed for the year 2022, as well as the contract for the year 2023, so that it can pay the dues due to hospitals for the year 2022. But for these contracts to become valid.” It needs a decree issued by the Council of Ministers, which seems impossible at present, which means that hospitals will not receive, in the foreseeable future, the dues for the year 2022.

The Syndicate indicated that “hospitals that suffer from the dire economic situation do not have the ability to bear the repercussions of this reality, and they will see themselves forced not to receive patients at the expense of the Ministry of Public Health, especially since they pay all their purchases and wages on a monthly basis and are in dire need of receiving their dues in a manner regular”.

And she warned that hospitals will not be able to secure medicines and medical supplies for dialysis patients, which will force them to charge these patients the cost of their treatment, and this also applies to patients who receive chemotherapy.

And she stressed that she “appreciates the efforts made by the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, to address the problem,” addressing “the head of the caretaker government, Najib Mikati, to rectify this matter in order to prevent falling into the prohibited and work to find the necessary way for hospitals to reach their dues.”
