Last summer, Maccabi Tel Aviv joined the list of international soccer clubs and professional sports organizations, when it became the first soccer club in Israel to sign with the Irish sports data and data processing company, Kitman Labs.
More than 770 sports organizations work with Kitman Labs including European soccer clubs from the Premier League in England, La Liga in Spain, Serie A in Italy and Ligue 1 in France as well as American professional sports teams from the NFL, MLS, and colleges from the NCAA.
The company, founded in 2012 by physiotherapist Stephen Smith, uses a combination of data collected by devices in addition to human analysis, in order to assess risks in the area of injury prevention. Kitman Labs’ system helps regulate loads, manage athletes, training and content on a daily basis with an emphasis on injury prevention in addition to providing additional information regarding performance on the field.
In recent days, Richard Bairan, director of sports partnerships at Kitman Labs, and Jamie Schultz, senior consultant in the application of sports sciences, visited Maccabi’s training complex in Kiryat Shalom, and completed the training for all Maccabi’s professional teams in order to fully utilize the capabilities of the system.
The manager of the football department of Maccabi Tel Aviv, Barak Itzhaki He explained how working with Kitman Labs’ software provides up-to-date information that aids decision-making and enables real-time action subject to injury risk alerts: “Professional football clubs have progressed to such levels that they are accumulating a considerable amount of data by the sports science team and the medical team.
