Alvaro Morata, the Atletico Madrid player, revealed an interest from Barcelona to sign him last January.
Morata was a Juventus player for the past two seasons before returning to Rojiblancos this summer after the end of his loan.
Morata told Cadena Ser: “Xavi Hernandez called me, we talked about football in general and then he offered me to join the team. When a former player and coach like him appreciates you, you feel good.”
“This winter I had 4 or 5 shows but Massimiliano Allegri He refused my transfer and was holding on to me.”
On racism in Spanish stadiums and the crisis of Vinicius Junior, he explained, “It is unacceptable that such things happen. A 21-year-old boy should enjoy playing football on the field.”
“Personally, everything that Vinicius went through makes me a little sad, because of all that he had to listen to.”
Regarding the national team, he said: “We trust Luis Enrique, I advise everyone to set their eyes on Borja Iglesias (Real Betis striker) because he won the best title in this round.”
And he concluded, “Retire from Atletico? Yes, I want that, I’m at home, and I want to win titles here.”
Morata returned to Atletico Madrid this summer after the end of his two-season loan to Juventus.
Morata played 69 matches in the Atletico Madrid shirt, during which he scored 25 goals and assisted 6 others.
