The judges in Qatar 2022 are already generating a lot of interest, it is not clear whether through their own fault or because of an “order from above”. The long overtimes, which often exhaust the players for no reason, have received many criticisms.
Another interesting thing is the issue of their salary in the World Cup which is entirely based on corruption: the question of salary is an excellent question considering the fact that soccer referees, and referees in general, have one of the most underrated jobs in the world of sports. Not only do they have to make the tough decisions, but they have to keep up with all the players on the field.
So how much will referees be paid for the 2022 World Cup? The NBC Sport website estimated the salary based on the data from previous years. During the previous World Cup in Russia in 2018, FIFA, the World Cup’s governing body, decided that each match referee would receive $70,000 for his involvement in the tournament. In 2014, referees received $50,000 for their involvement in the World Cup.
The exact number here is unknown, but the site has taken an educated guess based on the data above. In Russia, World Cup referees were paid $3,000 per game. A total of 36 referees have been selected to participate in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup Games, not including assistant referees.
The later stages of the tournament, including the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, etc., will be held by the referees who make the best impression during the group stage.
In addition, the Qatar World Cup will be the first ever World Cup in which three female referees will judge. This is the first time in the event’s 92-year history that female referees have been selected for the soccer World Cup. Three other women were also elected to be assistant judges.
