The Board of Directors of the Emirates Football Association held an emergency meeting today, Sunday, at the federation’s headquarters in Dubai, during which they discussed developments regarding the resignation of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi from the presidency of the federation, and decided to assume the first vice president of the federation, Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, to temporarily preside over the federation and grant him the powers of the president of the federation until a while. Calling for a general assembly within 90 days to elect a new board of directors.
The Board of Directors was keen to thank Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi for the period of work he spent as President of the Federation since the current Board assumed its duties in January 2020 during the 2020-2024 electoral cycle.
The Secretary-General of the Football Association, Muhammad Hazam Al-Dhaheri, said in a press statement after the meeting: “The council decided, in accordance with the text of Article 99 of the statute of the Football Association, that the first vice-president, Abdullah Nasser Al-Junaibi, assume the presidency of the federation until the call for a general assembly to elect a new board of directors. Sending invitations to hold the general assembly to the clubs that are members of the Football Association 60 days before the date of the assembly.
The Secretary-General of the Football Association indicated that the current board of directors is not entitled to extend the 90-day period for holding a general assembly to elect a new board of directors.
Article “101” of the statute of the Football Association states that “in the event that the president stops performing his official duties temporarily or permanently, the board of directors convenes within seven days to choose one of the two vice-presidents to carry out the duties of the president during a temporary period of time until the next general assembly that appoints a new president.” by election.”
