The most famous league in the world is facing the anxiety of turmoil and recourse to the judiciary
The Premier League is facing the threat of lawsuits from clubs for failing to control spending rules.
Southampton, Leicester City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Burnley clubs have informed the English Premier League of their intention to obtain financial compensation of 300 million pounds if Everton is not relegated and is found guilty of breaching spending limits and financial fair play.
Burnley could also claim compensation of around €140m from relegation losses last season.
The relegation battle is raging in the English Premier League, of which there are two remaining rounds, and Everton ranks seventeenth, a point behind the relegation centers in Leeds, Leicester and Southampton, which have already fallen.
These clubs are also considering taking a legal step against the English Premier League itself for not preventing clubs from reaching losses of more than 105 million pounds over a period of 3 years.
Everton worked over two years with the league to control its expenses over two years, but their financial accounts for the 2020-21 season recorded losses of 372 million pounds over the past three years. Abandoning Richarlison to Tottenham for £60m cut losses to £313.5m.
Everton spent 731 million pounds over the previous seven years. The remaining clubs are also angry at allowing the Toffees to spend 86 million last summer in the transfer market.
