Rockstar Games Studios, publisher of the popular video game Grand Theft Auto, confirmed Monday that videos of the upcoming version of GTA VI in development have been hacked and posted online this weekend.
“We recently had a cyber breach in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information on our systems, including scenes from the next version of Grand Theft Auto,” the group wrote on Twitter.
And the specialized PC Gamer website reported, at the end of this week, that a file containing about 90 videos of “GTA6” was published on gamers’ forums. The clips especially show a new female character that players can choose.
For his part, the person who uploaded those images under the pseudonym teapotuberhacker confirmed that he was also responsible for hacking Uber last week, vowing to “leak more information soon” about the game.
“We are very disappointed, because details of the next version of the game have been shared with you in this way,” added “Rockstar Games,” a subsidiary of the American company Take-Two Interactive.
It has ruled out “at this point” that it has “any disruptions to its live gaming services”. “Our work continues as before,” she added.
Neither the identity of the hacker nor its connection to the Uber hack was identified last week.
