Mohamed Wahba, head of the butchers’ division, said that Egypt is a country that does not produce meat and relies on imports, which is the main reason for the price hike.
And he added, during a telephone conversation with the “Al-Hekaya” program presented by the media, Amr Adib, on the “mbc Egypt” screen, on Friday evening, that the existing meat is not sufficient for the consumption and needs of citizens, explaining that the average price of a kilogram currently ranges between 250 and 300 pounds.
He expected the price per kilo to rise to 350 pounds in the coming period, particularly with the advent of the upcoming Eid al-Adha (which witnesses a usual increase in meat consumption).
And Wahba continued: “The price of meat will increase, but how much is this need for our Lord..Maybe our Lord will send us good, and the prices will not increase..We must live in our Lord and take every need passively.”
It should be noted that Haitham Abdel Basset, deputy head of the butchers division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, recently spoke about the pricing rate for a kilogram of meat ranging between 330 and 360 pounds.
He said in televised statements that the current prices are not satisfactory to butchers, as they are not commensurate with the cost of production. For two months until the meat market stabilizes.
