
Dr. Sami Hashem, Chairman of the Education and Scientific Research Committee in the House of Representatives, confirmed the committee’s request to the concerned authorities to study the level of performance at the level of all university hospitals, as well as another study on the extent of cooperation between the Ministry of Health and university hospitals.
This came during the discussion of the Education and Scientific Research Committee on state budget projects for the new fiscal year 2023/2024 with regard to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its affiliated bodies (universities – university hospitals) and the draft economic and social development plan for the fiscal year 2023-2024.
Sami Hashem said that the committee will consider these required studies as soon as they are submitted, and accordingly our recommendations and demands will be submitted to the Council of Ministers, as there must be cooperation in this field.
For her part, Representative Dr. Magda Bakri stressed the necessity of recommending that new medical colleges not be established in public universities without a university hospital, especially with the problems that have recently emerged with the complaint of some universities about the continuation of medical schools for years without a university hospital, which leads us into complex problems.
The chairman of the committee was keen to stand on the extent of implementation of parliamentary recommendations with regard to Egyptian public universities and university hospitals associated with them during the current year, foremost of which is the allocation of a building for border universities, in Cairo or the administrative capital.
In this regard, the President of the University of the New Valley, Dr. Abdel Aziz Tantawi, said that there was a demand that was repeated annually for the university to have a building, then reduce it to two floors and finally two apartments, to be the headquarters of the border universities in Cairo Governorate, but nothing was implemented.
