League Plus – The English Premier League has officially announced the nominees for the ‘Player of the Season’ award, with Manchester City and Arsenal players receiving two players each.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle players make up the other three choices, it remains to be seen who will win the award.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is the hottest pick, 22-year-old Erling Haaland had a stellar debut season in England.

He was also nominated for the Young Player of the Season award, scoring an astonishing 36 goals in 33 matches, to lead City to a third successive title, already a new Premier League record, and Manchester City still have three games to go.

Haaland joins teammate Kevin De Bruyne in the nominations. This is no real surprise, given how closely the pair have been linked this season.

The Belgium international has once again played a key role under Pep Guardiola, scoring seven goals and making 18 assists.

Haaland and De Bruyne join the shortlist of two Arsenal stars: Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. Interestingly, like Haaland, they are also nominated for Young Player of the Season.

Saka has enjoyed his best season to date, by far, in 36 league matches the winger has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists, this gives him an impressive average of 0.66 goal contribution per game.

Odegaard also played 35 matches in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals, in addition to making eight assists.

The attacking midfielder has led Arsenal this season, and the pair have played a vital role in Arsenal being second in the Premier League table, and had it not been for Manchester City’s brilliance, they would have won the league title.

The other three choices are Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.

Rashford has been in fantastic form this season, with his 16 league goals helping his side finish fourth in the Premier League table.

Kane, on the other hand, has continued his prolific goal-scoring style, so far he has scored 27 Premier League goals trailing only Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.

Finally, the only defender to make the shortlist is Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier, with the England international playing a key role for Newcastle, as the team finished third in the table.

The winner of the award will be chosen by a committee assembled by the Premier League’s sponsors, made up of members of football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.
