A Mexican court has sentenced a girl to 6 years and two months in prison for the murder of her rapist.
The verdict was issued, last Wednesday, and the court revealed that the girl, named (Roxana N), acted in self-defense when she killed her attacker in 2021, but said she used excessive force.
The court decided that the 23-year-old woman had defended herself, caused the man to lose consciousness, then strangled him and tried to dismember his body, and kept the body for at least 20 hours before placing it in a plastic bag on a street in the city where she resides.
The court explained that it took into account the vulnerability of women as a female and as an indigenous person in the rationale for its ruling.
In an interview with the “Amy Equis” website, the woman who killed her rapist said: “I defended myself, it was either my life or his, I just wanted to defend my life from a rapist,” noting that fear was controlling her at the time of the crime.
The single mother, from the southern state of Oaxaca, is supported by women’s organizations and has already spent nine months in pre-trial detention before being released for the duration of the trial.
