Nabil Maaloul announced his resignation from the Tunisian club, Esperance, after the massive defeat he suffered against Al-Ahly club in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-finals.

Tunisia’s Esperance lost, 3-0, to Al-Ahly club, during the match that brought them together yesterday, Friday, against Stade Rades in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-finals.

Maaloul leaves Taraji training

Nabil Maaloul wrote, through his official account on the social networking site “Facebook”: “I understand the sadness and disappointment of the Esperance after this difficult loss, and I apologize to all the fans for not being able to bring joy last night to the hearts of our ancient fans.”

Al-Ahly and Tunisian Esperance

He added, “In the recent period, the task was not easy for me and the rest of the technical framework and players for several reasons that are long to be explained in the current circumstance. But I tried with all my power to find appropriate solutions, overcome difficulties and achieve the best possible results.”

And he continued: “I answered the call of duty when my team needed me in a difficult period at the end of the last season. Praise be to God, we succeeded in some things and failed in other things, and people make mistakes and are injured, and the interest of my Tunisian sports team, Esperance, prevails.”

And he concluded: “I decided to withdraw and submit my resignation to the club president. I call on all the Esperance fans to continue standing behind the players and support them in the rest of the journey in the championship, the cup and the African Champions League. Please, country.”

The date of the next Al-Ahly and Al-Taraji match

Tunisia’s Esperance will visit Al-Ahly club next Friday at Cairo Stadium, in the second leg of the African Champions League semi-finals.
