In a precedent that is the first of its kind towards promoting and preserving the popular cultural heritage, which comes through the launch of a number of initiatives that work to revive the cultural heritage, the Higher Institute of Folklore launches the first session of the “Day of Folk Games” next Tuesday corresponding to 16 This May from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Dr. Mostafa Gad, Dean of the Higher Institute of Folklore, indicated that this day comes within the framework of returning to the practice of popular games, which began to decline after the spread of social media, which made each of us closed in on ourselves.
The Dean of the Institute explained that this closure led to the lack of live collective participation in our daily lives, in addition to the fact that the topic of popular games is one of the most important topics that the Institute teaches at all academic levels within the academic courses.
Jad pointed out that this year’s session will be attended by students and professors of the institute, and students and professors from other institutes will also be invited to participate. A group of popular games have been identified to be played on this day as follows..
1. The first (hopscotch)
2. Perilla perilla
6. Fat Fox
7. The Seven Tobs
8. Tug of war
12. The handkerchief
13. The Bee and the Wasp
14. The English blew it
He concluded: “We will also determine prizes for the winners of each game for the participating students and professors, and a referee will be allocated for each student game to implement the rules and announce the winners.”
