De Gea secures the Premier League Golden Glove award
Today, Saturday, press reports stated that Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has secured his Golden Glove award for the 2022-2023 season.
De Gea reached 16 “clean sheets”, meaning that he did not concede a goal during this season in 16 matches so far.
According to the “Daily Mail” newspaper, De Gea is competing for this award with Nick Pope, goalkeeper of Newcastle United, Alisson Becker, goalkeeper of Liverpool and Aaron Ramsdale, goalkeeper of Arsenal, and they have 13 clean sheets in their balance.
Only 3 matches remain at the end of the English Premier League, and therefore if the trio do not concede any goal in the remaining confrontations, they will be equal to De Gea with 16 clean sheets and win the award with him.
But if De Gea goes out without goals in the next match against Manchester United, he will reach 17 clean sheets, and therefore it will be difficult for any goalkeeper to equal him.
Despite De Gea’s guarantee of winning the award, his performance this season was not good, conceding 41 goals, and many press reports indicated that he was close to leaving Manchester United.
This will be the second time that the Spanish star has won the award in his career, having previously won the award during the 2017-2018 season.
