Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, commented on their achievement of the 2022/23 La Liga title, officially yesterday evening.
Barcelona’s coronation came after its victory over Espanyol, by four goals to two, at the “Power 8” stadium in the thirty-fourth round.
Laporta said in statements published by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”: “The match was quieter than we expected. We dominated and we were deserved winners. We are champions. Let all the fans celebrate.”
He added, “The titles have already come, and we have saved the club financially. We have brought joy back to the Barcelona fans and we have already won important titles. The best team is the one that wins La Liga.”
And he continued: “It feels very good because it was a very successful league. We made a lot of effort. To win the title with 4 rounds to go, means you performed well.”
And he continued: “Let’s see if this is the first championship of the league in a great stage. Players, employees, workers, colleagues and fans deserve praise. This role is for the Catalans.”
He stressed, “Xavi was decisive. Apart from his knowledge of football, he has knowledge of the institution and the club. He worked hard so that we could play good football. He was decisive. He deserves congratulations. We have a great coach. We are very happy.”
And he continued: “I think we are on the right path, but you cannot take it for granted, any team can intimidate you, there are great teams, we always have to keep working and fighting.”
He explained, “What we wanted was to win La Liga as soon as possible, whoever our opponent is. We are already working on a team for next year. We hope to be able to strengthen the team.”
He concluded: “We are in an austerity plan in the club to be able to apply the rules of fair play to allow us to improve the team, we aim to have a more competitive team next season.”
