Al-Shorouk Publishing House is organizing a ceremony to sign and discuss the short story collection “Socks of the Dean of Literature” by Ahmed Kamel, on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at exactly seven o’clock in the evening, in the consulate building in the center of the country. The short story collection is discussed by novelist Nora Naji and critic Aya Tantawi.
From the ambiance of the short story collection “Socks of the Dean of Literature,” we read: Usta, a boy, and a profession. This trilogy is present in most of the group’s stories. There is a profession that is handed down from one generation to the next, there is one profession that is passed from father to son, sometimes in a kind of involvement. Through the transfer of these professions from one time to a different time, differences and contradictions emerge between fathers and children. – From one of the group’s stories: «Father! Is that my dad?! Do you know what my father is?! The old master in town, builder of Primo boats. On his own and within a month, he could build a boat that would require four men and the same number of months. wherever he walks his boys follow him; Butterflies around dear light. Zaffah wherever he goes and Zaffah whenever he arrives. There is no point in the sea except that its footsteps have been made by me.
Ahmed Kamel is a writer and novelist, born in 1981. Two collections of poetry have been published, namely, a collection of poems, “Sugar Lost by Narcissus Does Not Sing,” published by Iktab House in 2008, and “King on Memory” published by Safsafa House in 2011, as well as two novels: “The Old Testament” published by Rawafed House in 2016.
and “Mountain Al-Majazat” by Dar Sard and Dar Mamdouh Adwan 2018, which won the award for writer Yahya Hakki in its first session in 2021. The novel is inspired by the traditions of villages in rural Egypt, the beliefs of its people and their fairy tales; to adopt its own legend.
