
Aswan Governorate participated in the training course for community participation officials in the units of a decent life, which was organized at the Local Development Center in Saqqara over a period of 3 days during the current May.
This came in light of activating the community participation of citizens, and under the auspices of Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development.
For his part, Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, praised the organization of these training courses aimed at emphasizing the integration of citizens in the planning and follow-up of projects, especially those underway within President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative “A Decent Life”.
He pointed out that the presidential initiative is being implemented in 100 villages in the first phase of the centers of Edfu, Kom Ombo and Nasr al-Nuba, with a total of 1994 projects in various sectors of public work, of which 868 projects have been completed, while work is underway with 1126 other projects, and this is integrated with the inclusion of a number of other projects within the stage. The second, which includes the villages of the Aswan and Daraw centers, bringing the total number of targeted villages to 39 Um village local units, 116 satellite villages, and 380 Naga’, Kafr and Ezbet, after the President’s directives to include all the villages of the governorate’s centers for the projects of the presidential initiative.
He added that hearing sessions had been held and priorities were set for demands and needs, in addition to the establishment of integrated development committees at the center and village levels, with the participation of elite trainers from the Ministry of Local Development.
For his part, Khaled Abdel-Galil, Director of Political Communication and Community Participation Officer at the Decent Life Unit in Aswan, explained that the training course was implemented by the Upper Egypt Development Program at the Ministry of Local Development with the aim of enhancing citizens’ participation in the program and in the presidential initiative, a decent life, given that the citizen is a basic partner, and he is one of the active parties in what Contributes to the implementation of first priority projects with high quality and efficiency, thus achieving the highest levels of satisfaction among citizens from various projects.
He indicated that the training course focused on introducing trainers to the importance of participatory development, how to assess actual needs, implement them in practice, and their relations to the local planning system, prepare and implement community hearings and participations, apply environmental and social considerations, understand community accountability and its tools, and standards for service delivery and satisfaction with them.
