Today, Wednesday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, which is the first meeting of the Arab ministerial contact group concerned with following up developments in the situation in Sudan.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zaid, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, said in a statement that today, Wednesday, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, the first meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group concerned with following up developments in the situation in Sudan, which was formed according to the decision of the Council of the League of Nations, was held. Arab League in its extraordinary session No. 8915 on May 7, with the membership of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.
The group is concerned with communicating with the Sudanese and international parties to work to address the causes of the crisis, and to make efforts to reach a complete and sustainable ceasefire, according to the official page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social networking site “Facebook”.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the meeting, in which the foreign ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia and the Secretary-General of the Arab League participated, stressed the importance of reaching an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in order to preserve the capabilities of the brotherly people of Sudan and its national institutions, in addition to the importance of dealing with the Sudanese crisis as an internal and pivotal matter. The group also warned against interference in Sudanese affairs, and expressed its support for the Jeddah Humanitarian Declaration on protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian work, and meeting urgent humanitarian needs.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the members of the contact group praised the efforts of a number of Arab countries, including the Arab Republic of Egypt, in alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people. crisis, while calling on the international community to provide urgent humanitarian and medical support to the Sudanese people.
