The phenomenon of medical errors has increased in regime-controlled areas, which has led to a loss of trust in doctors, given that the simplest operations threaten the patient’s life. The head of the Scientific Committee of the Association of Anesthesiologists and Analgesics affiliated to the regime considered that the core of the problem is the negligence of anesthesiologists, according to loyal media reports.
Social media was abuzz with the recent news, which is the death of the 9-year-old Zine El-Abidine Ibrahim, as a result of a medical error.
The child died as a result of a simple “tooth extraction” operation.
According to the report of the forensic doctor at Al-Mujtahid Hospital, the cause of death was an overdose of anesthesia.
The head of the Scientific Committee of the Association of Anesthesiologists and Anesthesiologists of the regime, Fawaz Hilal, told “Athar” website, “The action taken against the anesthesiologist who caused a death is a union discipline through the union, and it is possible to suspend him from work temporarily or completely, and it is possible to go to The competent judiciary, and it is possible that the punishment be through both, as all options are available.”
He continued, “If the medical error is proven, it is classified as unintentional killing due to negligence and poor precaution, and the penalty is between 6 months to 3 years, in addition to a fine and compensation.”
According to Helal, “the core of the problem is the lack of anesthesiologists.”
“Hilal” has previously warned that these medical errors will be repeated with different names of doctors and victims because there is a severe bleeding in the number of anesthesiologists present, stressing that most of them traveled outside Syria in addition to that those present work in difficult working conditions.
He considered that the solution to the problem would be to give doctors their rights and fairness, because this would be a motivating factor for medical students to turn to this specialty and we would have an abundance of numbers.
“Hilal” reaffirmed that most of the anesthesiologists present in hospitals today are of the age group that is close to retirement age. As for the young generation, their numbers are very few, and many of them intend to travel outside the country, since their chances of obtaining a job are great, as they are more desirable than others. The rest of the specialties.
It is noteworthy that in March of this year, the 13-year-old Jude Sukkar died after suffering a medical error in a private Damascus hospital, and entered a coma as a result of which it lasted from February 11 until the day of his death, and the anesthesia technician and the attending physician made the mistake.
