In an incident that brought to mind the death of Prince Diana, a spokesman for British Prince Harry said, on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, that the prince, his wife Megan, and her mother were subjected to an “almost catastrophic car chase” by intrusive photographers, according to what was published by the French News Agency.

He added that the chase took place after they attended an awards ceremony in New York, and the spokesman indicated that the incident involved about 6 cars with darkened windows, which were driven in a dangerous manner, which endangered the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Doria Ragland, Megan’s mother, at risk.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night, after Prince Harry and Megan attended an award ceremony in the US financial capital, and a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement that Megan’s mother, Doria Ragland, was with them in the car, and the statement read: “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Mrs. Ragland were exposed to a car chase, which almost caused a disaster, at the hands of a very aggressive network of photographers.”

A spokesman for the couple residing in California pointed out that this “intense pursuit, which lasted about two hours, almost caused a collision with other drivers or with pedestrians and two New York police officers.”

“Being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, but it should never be at the expense of anyone’s safety,” he added. “The publication of these images, given the way they were obtained, encourages a very intrusive practice It is dangerous for everyone involved.”

Prince Harry, 38, and his wife, Megan, 41, attended a party for a foundation concerned with women’s issues, during which Megan received an award.

The couple withdrew from the royal family in early 2020 and moved from Britain to the United States, a decision they attributed in part to the media’s excessive interference in their lives.

Harry has long blamed the press for the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while being pursued by paparazzi.
