The Secretary-General stated that the step of returning Syria to the League of Arab States is an Arab endeavor to facilitate the process of resolving the crisis in Syria.

He pointed out that Arab countries have the freedom to decide to resume relations with Syria.

However, the Secretary-General of the Arab League added that the return of Syria does not mean that a solution has been reached to the Syrian problem, and that Syria has accepted that its return to the Arab League is part of the context of the solution.

On the Palestinian issue, Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of Palestinian reconciliation at home before anything else.
