Official: Biden administration undecided about sending F-16s to Ukraine

The official stated that “Ukraine has demanded these planes since the beginning of the Russian war against it, when the United States and its allies provided MiG planes to the Ukrainians for their ability to deal with them.”

He added, “The US administration can issue licenses to its European allies who own these American planes to allow them to be sent to Ukraine.”

And he stressed that “this has not been decided yet, because the administration is interested at the present time in accelerating the pace of delivery of US weapons, which it pledged as soon as possible, to Ukraine.”

This statement comes as Britain and the Netherlands are seeking to establish an international alliance to help Ukraine obtain the F-16, which is dubbed the “Dragon” or “Fighting Falcon”.

Kiev considers these American-made fighters important for its defense in light of Russia intensifying its air strikes, especially on the Bakhmut front, in the east of the country.

According to the British government’s statement, the two NATO allies are trying to transfer the “F-16” to Ukraine in addition to training its pilots, while Belgium has confirmed its readiness to carry out these exercises.
