The senior American diplomat Kurt Welker – the special envoy of the United States government to Ukraine, and the representative of the American government in NATO, came over the weekend for a visit of sympathy to the Chabad Children’s Home “Family” in Odessa. Together with the important guest, Mayor Gindi Trukhanov and his deputy Pavel Vogelman arrived.
They were welcomed by the chief rabbi of Odessa and southern Ukraine Rabbi Avraham Wolf, the chairman of the Jewish communities in southern Ukraine Igor Shadakhin, the staff of the “Or Avner” school and the management of the orphanages.
The guest reassured the children after the difficult sleepless night they went through due to the severe shelling and assured them that the American people and the government are behind them, and together with Rabbi Wolf and the wonderful team that works with him, will do everything to guarantee them a good, happy life and a wonderful future in Aza.
The chairman of the association Igor Shadakhin said that in a conversation with Kurt Volker, they discussed the quick ways to build shelters under the orphanage buildings in Odessa, and the ways to protect all the Jewish institutions throughout southern Ukraine.
The American diplomat, Kurt Volker, praised the work of Chabad in Ukraine in the last thirty years, and in particular the great humanitarian aid that the communities, together with the JRNU organization led by the rabbinical emissaries David Mundschein and Shlomo Peles, give to Jews and non-Jews during the difficult war.
