Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that economic cooperation between Russia and China will gain momentum soon, against the background of the West taking a “dictator’s position.”

“After the West took the position of a dictator, our economic relations with China will grow faster,” Lavrov added, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He also noted that “this, in contrast to direct income to the state budget, gives us the opportunity to implement plans for the rise of the Far East and Eastern Siberia.”

“The main number of projects with China are developing and being implemented there. This is an opportunity for us to realize our potential in the field of high technologies, including nuclear energy, and also in a number of other areas,” he said.

Relations with the West

In parallel, Lavrov, stated that Russia will rely only on itself and on countries that have proven its reliability and “do not dance to someone else’s tune.”

He pointed out that if the West wanted to offer something to Russia regarding the resumption of relations, Moscow would think seriously if it needed to, according to what was reported by the “TASS” agency.

He continued, “Now we are not only creating some kind of import substitution process. We must in any way stop relying on the supply of anything from the West in order to ensure the development of industries important to the security, economy and social sphere of our motherland.”

It is noteworthy that Beijing, over the past months, has avoided criticizing the military operation launched by Russia on the territory of its western neighbor, on February 24, blaming the West and NATO countries for the exacerbation of the conflict, due to the expansion of the alliance in the European East, without taking into account the security concerns of the countries concerned, especially Russia.

Fears of open clash

But China, which is the largest exporter in the world, the largest trading partner of the European Union and the largest foreign supplier of goods to the United States, is wary of slipping into an open confrontation with Washington or European countries, because of the repercussions it will have on it.

Although any pressure on Chinese trade would also have indirect economic effects on America and its allies.
