Next month, a delegation from the Odyssey program will go to the Sarn Research Institute near Geneva in Switzerland, where the largest particle accelerator in the world is located, where they are trying to produce new particles using a very high amount of energy. At the institute, which is considered the most important institute in the world in the field of particles, and where the world’s largest particle accelerator is located, the members of the delegation will meet with world-renowned researchers in the field of physics, hear lectures and watch demonstrations of experiments. Itamar Golomb, a 12th grade student from Amit Beer Tovia, was chosen to go on the expedition together with seven other students who study with him at Ben Gurion University.
The program on behalf of which the students go on the fascinating expedition is Ben Gurion University’s Odyssey program, in which outstanding high school students study academic courses at universities, alongside enrichment training in the fields of computer science and physics. Dozens of students for each university are admitted to the program from among thousands of applicants.
“I am excited about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the Saran research center, study the subject up close and represent the Amit Beer Tovia school, Ben Gurion University and the Odyssey program,” Golomb said this week.
