German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that Germany is expected to sign contracts to purchase liquefied natural gas in the United Arab Emirates next Sunday.
“The gas supply is growing slowly. The government is always in talks with many countries,” the German Economy Minister told Reuters, recalling his trip to Qatar and the UAE last March.
In March, sources said that talks on liquefied natural gas between Germany and Qatar were dominated by differences over basic terms, including the term of any contract.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will head to Saudi Arabia next Saturday on an official two-day visit to the Kingdom, as part of a Gulf tour that also includes the UAE and Qatar.
Before that, the German news agency quoted a diplomatic Source at the German embassy in Riyadh that Chancellor Schulz “attaches great importance to the results of his upcoming talks with the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and a number of members of the Saudi government.”
