“Here’s a mystery I never wanted to solve”: TikTokers were left shocked after a Florida zoo gave everyone a peek inside the pouch of one of their female kangaroos. In the video – which is only 8 seconds long – you can see one of the caretakers at the zoo Animal EDventure Park & Safari Opens the pouch to take a picture of a tiny puppy sucking from its mother’s nipple.
The video was uploaded to Tiktok more than a month ago and has since gone viral with more than 71 million views, 1.4 million likes and 20,000 comments from surfers – some of them were really horrified by what they saw. “I was sure there was fur inside,” wrote one surfer. “I never thought there was bare skin there.” Another surfer was startled to find the video while scrolling through theFor you his on TikTok and added: “It happened so fast. I didn’t have time to convey it. I think I have a trauma.”

the caregivers of Animal EDventure Park & Safari More videos have since been uploaded of other female kangaroos at the zoo, with cubs at different stages of development – some smaller and some larger. These videos also provoked reactions from shocked surfers, some of whom felt it was “a real invasion of the kangaroo’s privacy”. One surfer even wrote: “Here’s something humans weren’t supposed to see.”
Kangaroo cubs spend a total of 33 days in their mothers’ wombs before they are born about the size of a peanut. They then crawl into their mother’s pouch, where they remain for 190 until they emerge for the first time. The puppy leaves the pouch definitively after almost 8 months. The inside of the kangaroo pouch is made of a leather texture designed to keep the puppy warm and protected while it develops and grows.

If the inside of the pouch looks disgusting to you, wait until you find out how the females clean it. In the first few months after birth, the little puppies shed feces and urine while they nurse inside. Later, when they are able to go outside, they also fill the pouch with dirt, dust and other debris that they pick up as they scan their surroundings. Therefore, the females are forced to scrape off all the dirt and excrement with their own hands and then clean their fingers with their mouths.
